Following the meeting in remarks to gather media, Ms. Holguín expressed her satisfaction at returning to the island and congratulated Mr. Erhürman on assuming his new role as leader of the Turkish Cypriot side. She described their exchange as “a very good and useful conversation” and noted her hope that the next leaders’ meeting will be productive and focused.
“I am glad to host next week the meeting of the two leaders,” she said. “I am pushing for a very productive and very concrete conversation between the two leaders and myself.”
Referring to her recent participation in a retreat of the Technical Committee on Youth in Amman, Ms. Holguín highlighted the importance of fostering a positive environment on the island: “I think this is what we want — a new atmosphere in Cyprus.
