12 Dec 2024 - In recent days, I have had the privilege of engaging with many Syrian women across Syria and those who were forced into exile. These women are members of networks who have advocated on behalf of Syrian women for decades and throughout the nearly fourteen years of conflict and include members of the Syrian Women’s Advisory Board (WAB) and many women associated with Civil Society Support Room (CSSR).

10 Dec 2024 - Let me start by saying that what has happened in the last few days, no one, absolutely no one saw this coming. I believe even the armed groups that are now in control of Damascus have been surprised by what has happened. But of course, what we have seen is a watershed moment in Syria's history with President Assad and his government ousted from power, following what can only be called an extraordinary military offensive that saw Damascus fall within two weeks.

Recent days have seen a dramatic shift in frontlines, including significant advances by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, a group that remains a designated terrorist group by the Security Council, and a wide range of armed opposition factions. We have also seen pro-Government airstrikes.

24 Nov 2024 - Obviously, we are at a very critical moment in the region, and I think we're all following very closely what's happening in Gaza and Lebanon and my message has all the time been that we need now to make sure that we have immediately a ceasefire in Gaza, that we have a ceasefire in Lebanon, and that we avoid Syria being dragged even further into the conflict

He does so having repeatedly sounded the alarm about the implications for Syria and Syrians of escalating regional conflict.
